A Legacy Built on Integrity, Craftsmanship, and Family
Glen Lee Screws went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, at the age of 68, after courageously battling cancer for the past year. A longtime resident of Spicewood, Texas, Glen earned the admiration of his community as a custom homebuilder and real estate developer. He was a devoted member of LifeAustin Church and a man of deep faith and generosity.
In 1982, Glen founded Glen Screws Construction in Waco, Texas, laying the foundation for what would become a four-decade legacy of over 500 custom projects. His portfolio spanned custom homes, residential subdivisions, retirement centers, commercial buildings, and supporting developments.
Glen was proud to be recognized as Austin’s first certified Green Builder.
His dedication to excellence earned prestigious honors from both the National Luxury Home Builders Association and the Texas Home Builders Association.
Glen was most at peace outdoors — whether hunting, fishing, golfing, or simply enjoying time with loved ones at one of his ranches in South Texas. These memories are cherished deeply by his family and will forever be part of the fabric of who he was.
While Glen’s professional achievements were many, his family remembers him most for his magnetic personality, quick wit, and boundless heart. He had a way of lighting up every room he entered. Behind the driven entrepreneur was a man who would give you the shirt off his back — one who loved deeply and lived fully. His entrepreneurial spirit continued when he partnered with his son, Drake, to launch La Caza Spirits, a successful and growing tequila brand rooted in passion, heritage, and family.
Glen met the Dakan family in the early 1990s while Wade and Farley Dakan were attending Baylor University in Waco. Both brothers worked for Glen during their college years, drawn to his vision and passion for homebuilding. What began as mentorship quickly became something more — Glen saw Wade and Farley as his own sons. Wade went on to build a successful custom homebuilding career in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, while Farley built a distinguished career in oil and gas.
When Glen was diagnosed with cancer, Wade and his family made the selfless decision to move from Flower Mound back to Austin, offering their support and stepping in to help Drake continue Glen’s work during this incredibly difficult time.
The Screws and Dakan families are more than business partners — they are family. And through Screws + Dakan Builders, Glen’s legacy of craftsmanship, integrity, and heart lives on.
